A suspected terrorist in Kaduna state has reportedly blew himself to smithereens with Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The suspect, who lived in Keke community along Ibrahim Haske Road, Kaduna Millennium City, took his own life after security operatives cornered him and he realised evading arrest was impossible.
A source familiar with the incident said security operatives had arrived at the suspect’s abode at 1:00 am as the neighbourhood woke up to the sound of gunshots.
According to the source, the suspect opened fire on security operatives when he discovered that his house was surrounded. This led to an exchange of gunfire. After he was overpowered by the superior firepower of security forces, he decided to the use of explosives to blow himself up.
It’s gathered that after the incident, security operatives ransacked his house and discovered an AK-47 rifle along with two other IEDs that were later defused by the anti-bomb squad.
“The man’s body was mutilated by the explosives, while his wife and children were taken away by DSS officials in their vehicles,” the source said.
A community leader, Malam Samaila, confirmed the incident.
Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Jalige Mohammed, has not spoken on the incident.
