One person was killed during an attack on Isin Local Government Area in Kwara State by a five-man gang on Tuesday.
Three persons were also abducted by the gang, who are suspected to be kidnappers, during the attack which happened on Ijara/Isanlu Isin Road.
One of the kidnapped victims was identified as Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, the immediate younger brother of the Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Akogun Oyedepo.
An eyewitness said that Mr Rotimi and two others were in the car along the Road when the fiery-looking kidnappers wielding guns intercepted their journey.
The witness, who spoke in confidence, said while the kidnappers were ordering the victims out of the car and into a nearby bush, an innocent motorcyclist, who was riding towards the scene of the incident at the time, was shot dead.
The source gave the name of the dead person as one Adeyemi.
He advised “people In Isin local government area of the state to avoid travelling between Ijara and Isanlu Road.”
The source also claimed that another bus conveying passengers from Ekiti State along that route was also intercepted and all the passengers were taken away into the bush.
Akogun, who is also a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, confirmed the incident.
He said his immediate younger brother was on an errand for the burial ceremony of their mother, scheduled to take place in their hometown, Isanlu Isin this Saturday, when he was kidnapped with two others.
He said “Yes, one of the kidnapped victims is my immediate younger brother. He was on an errand with others for the burial ceremony of our mother this Saturday when he was kidnapped with others.
When asked whether the suspected kidnappers have reached out to the family for a ransom, Oyedepo said, “No.”
“By the grace of God we will continue with the burial and we believe that by the grace of God, he will be released alive”, Punch quoted him as saying.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, also confirmed the incident.
He said, “One person was killed and three others still missing according to the information available.
Okasanmi added that “policemen have been drafted to comb the bush and rescue the kidnapped victims alive and also arrest the kidnappers
