One Lasisi Dada has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of Indian hemp, the police in Ekiti state have said.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, the 27-year-old defendant committed the offence on May 12 at about 10 am, in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade alleged that the defendant had in his possession five wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, an offence that contravenes Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act 1966.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him, while his counsel, Mr Stephen Ademuagun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.O. Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and subsequently adjourned the case until June 2 for a hearing.
