In continuation of consultation with critical stakeholders, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is hosting the House of Representatives Joint Tasks Committee of the House over the zoning of the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.
Joint Task Committee is a group of lawmakers (serving and newly elected) across the party lines in the House of Representatives rooting for Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Benjamin Kalu as the 10th Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House.
The committee members arrived at the party secretariat around 2:15 pm. Abbas, Kalu and over 100 members of the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly attended the session.
The Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led NWC met with other groups from the two chambers of the Assembly on the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.
APC NWC announced a consensus zoning arrangement with the Senate President ceded to South-South and Senator Godswill Akpabio tipped as the consensus candidate while the Deputy Senate President is allotted to North West zone and Senator Jibrin Barau pencilled down for the office.
In the House of Representatives, NWC zoned the Speakership to North West and announced Hon. Abbas for the position and the South East zone to produce the Deputy Speaker with Hon. Kalu as a consensus candidate.
The NWC arrangement however did not go down well with some lawmakers, leading to protest to the administrative organ of the party by some aggrieved lawmakers from the two chambers.
The development forced the NWC to beat a retreat and agreed to review the zoning after consultations with the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other critical stakeholders.
