The Bauchi State Police Command claims that the arrest of two key suspects foiled a planned attack on some parts of Bauchi.
It also revealed that additional suspects had been detained in the state for a variety of offences.
In a press release he signed and made available to newsmen in Bauchi, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, disclosed these facts and added that the police had taken action based on actionable intelligence and had put in place strategies strong enough to combat the state’s new criminal trends.
According to the police spokesman, on May 5, 2023, personnel assigned to the Area Command in Bauchi, acting on reliable intelligence, detained two suspects: Muktar Salisu and Absulazeez Hashimu, both of whom reside in the state capital of Bauchi.
The suspects were arrested in possession of one cutter rod and two sharp machetes hidden in an uncompleted building situated at Federal Low Cost area of the state capital, noting that the suspects confessed that they were planning to launch an operation in an uncertain place within the state.
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that the suspects further confessed that they had invited their co-conspirators from different areas within and outside the state with a view to launching heavy attacks on innocent citizens in the state.
In a related development, police operatives on surveillance patrol on 10th May, 2023, arrested a teenager and two others, who confessed to being armed robbers terrorising Bauchi metropolis.
“On 10/05/2023 at about 2029hrs police operatives attached to Area Command Metro while on surveillance patrol arrested the undermentioned suspects: Aliyu Yakubu m aged 20yrs, Basiru Babangida m aged 21yrs and Khalifa Abdullahi m aged 18yrs.
“During interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to being armed robbers (Yan Tokara) who are terrorising the residents of Bauchi metropolis.
“However, the suspects opened up clearly and stated that they criminally conspired among themselves, armed with dangerous weapons and entered people’s houses breaking the door and threatening the occupants to bring out their phones or else they face the consequences,” SP Wakil stated.
The police image maker added that investigation is ongoing to arrest their co-conspirators, after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.
Meanwhile, the command warned thugs in the state, also known as Sara-Suka, planning to cause any form of violence or disturbance of public peace to have a rethink or desist as it is fully prepared and battle ready to deal with them decisively in order to ensure safety and security in the state.
