Two men have been apprehended for raping and killing two elderly women in Ondo State, police in the South West state have disclosed.
The suspects, who were employed as farm laborers, committed the offenses in Akure, the state capital, as well as in Costain, Ore axis in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Within Nigeria had reported how Felicia Aderibigbe, an 80-year-old grandmother, was allegedly raped and killed on her farm in Costain Community by one of her workers, Mima Chinecherem, 27.
In the Fanibi neighborhood of Akure, a 29-year-old Togolese man named Mustapha Gbegele, a labourer, killed his 58-year-old landlady, Adijat Olaoye in an attempt to rape her inside her room.
The state’s commissioner of police, Taiwo Jesubiyi, said the two alleged murderers would be prosecuted in accordance with applicable legislation, as well as 16 other individuals who were allegedly involved in various crimes.
Speaking through the police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami-Omisanya, Jesubiyi also revealed that seven suspected cultists had been apprehended in connection with the recent Owo cult killings.
Jesubiyi added that, “Based on the dreadful activities of cultists in Owo and its environs, the command organized raids of affected areas, led by Area Commander Owo. The teams, which included all tactical teams, busted their hideouts, where the following suspects were arrested.
The arrested suspects are Fadaunsi Monday (27), Oluwafemi Ajayi (34), Adewale Monday (22), Olopona Olamide (27), Ifedayo Michael (20), Isiaka Jimoh (30), and Olatunji Ojo (35).
