An Islamic marriage between Rashidat Mumeen and Saliman Mumeen has been dissolved by a court in Kwara state.
The union was dissolved by the Area Court at Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, at the request of the wife.
The presiding judge, Abdul Qadir Umar, ruled that the husband and wife should part ways due to their inability to resolve their disagreement.
Umar said that the wife should observe the three-month Iddah period, as prescribed by Islam, and that they must conduct another Islamic marriage if they want to continue as husband and wife again.
He, however, granted Rashidat custody of the four children produced by the union.
The husband had earlier agreed to the wife’s divorce application but wanted custody of the children to keep them in his mother’s care.
His wife, however, objected, saying that she wouldn’t allow anyone to take care of her children on her behalf while alive.
