The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) rescued a 25-year-old woman in Jigawa State who was allegedly locked in a room for years by her father.
CSC Adamu Shehu, spokesman for the Jigawa State NSCDC Command, confirmed this to reporters on Wednesday.
He stated that this was in response to a complaint lodged at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters by a human rights activist alleging that a 25-year-old girl named Ummi had been locked up in a room within the house for several years without being allowed to leave by her father.
According to CSC Shehu, NSCDC operatives rushed to the house and rescued the girl, who appeared emaciated, unkempt, and depressed.
He explained that the room she was living in served as her toilet, where she urinated, and that her food was served on the bare floor.
CSC Adamu said the corps have arrested 67-year-old Garba Musa, her biological father and his 50-year-old wife, Aisha Abubakar, all of Takur Site, Dutse LGA, Jigawa State.
According to the father, his daughter is suffering from a mental illness and was moving around, causing problems in the neighborhood which was the reason she was locked up.
He said the command is investigating the matter.
