Iyorchia Ayu, the former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was suspended, and the Benue State High Court has maintained that decision.
Ayu’s tenure as PDP National Chairman was unexpectedly interrupted in March when his Nyorov council ward exco suspended him for failing to pay dues.
Ayu was also accused of anti-party acts by the ward exco, who then voted to remove him from office.
Vanger Dooyum, the party’s secretary in the Igyorov ward, read their resolution at the time and said that Ayu and his supporters’ anti-party actions were a factor in the PDP’s defeat in his ward and the local government in the governorship race.
They also alleged that the PDP chieftain did not vote during the governorship and state assembly elections held on the 18th of March, 2023.
According to them, most of Ayu’s closest allies worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) which resulted in the abysmal performance of the PDP in Igyorov Ward.
Twelve out of the seventeen exco members signed the documents endorsing his suspension.
