Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, started demolishing buildings on public grounds early on Saturday morning, which he claimed was illegal.
The demolition effort already claimed its first victim, a three-story structure with 90 stores near a racetrack in Filing Sukuwa, Nasarawa GRA, at roughly 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.
To demonstrate his devotion to the demolition project, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, an engineer by trade, oversaw the deconstruction of the illegal structure alongside State Commissioner of Police Muhammed Gumel.
It could be recalled that Abba Kabir Yusuf shortly after being declared governor-elect, threatened to demolish buildings in the state on public properties.
This is the first demolition carried out after assuming office on Monday, May 29th.
Also, on Friday, the governor directed the developer carrying out construction works at the Hajj Camp to stop ongoing construction.
All those who erected buildings on government lands or illegally acquired plots of land from the government are said to be jittery about the consequences of their actions.
