Four suspected fearsome cultists terrorizing Rundele Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have been killed, the police in the oil rich state have disclosed.
The state Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka-Polycarp, made the disclosure in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Emeka-Polycarp said Chinumezie, popularly called Nigaro; Chisa Orji, Okona Okwu and one other, yet to be identified, are cultists behind the death of four members of a local vigilante group in the Rundele community.
He said the cultists engaged the police and some members of a local vigilante group in a gun battle, which eventually led to their deaths.
The CP reiterated that the Command, under his watch, will do everything possible to ensure the security of the lives and properties of the Rivers people.
“On the 2nd of June 2023, at about 5:40 pm we received information that some cult boys had invaded Mgbuela village of Ndele community in Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State.
“The Divisional Police Officer, Rumuji mobilized his patrol teams to the scene where there was a gun duel between cult gangs and the Police, assisted by local vigilantes.
“On the exchange of the gunfire, four of the cult boys were fatally injured.
“And one of the cultists was identified to be, Chinumezi aka, Nigaro, the armoire of daygbam cult group and other cult groups”.
The bodies of the suspects were displayed by the CP.
