Three men appeared in Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly stealing and receiving stolen cables worth N6.5 million.
The defendants are Chukwudi Okoya, a trader, who resides at 19, Ibi Osi Street, Mushin, Lagos; Chika Okonkwo, a trader who lives in the Onipanu neighborhood of Lagos; and Jude Jeremiah, a tiler, who is 29 years old.
The three defendants are facing charges of conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property.
The offenses were committed between March 27 and April 4 at Ajegunle Street in Ilupeju, Lagos, according to the prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem.
Akeem alleged that the first defendant, Jeremiah, who worked as a tiler at the site of the complainant, Alhaji Ibrahim Shonoiki, stole cables worth N6.5 million, which he sold to the second and third defendants.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 287 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case until July 27 for mention.
