Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant, has criticized Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara for saying that Rivers is a Christian state.
The governor pledged that the state would maintain a strong commitment to its Christian values in a tweet sent out shortly after his inauguration on May 29, 2023.
Dokubo, in response, bemoaned the fact that Fubara had a rocky start to his term on Facebook Live.
He emphasized that making such a remark is contrary to the values of inclusivity and religious freedom.
Dokubo maintained that the governor lacked the authority to unilaterally declare the state a Christian one.
“I am using this medium to advise the governor, Sim Fubara, to better retract the statement. “I want him to know that Rivers State is not and will never be a Christian state. With such a statement, I can say that the governor is starting on the wrong footing,” Dokubo said.
