The Kano State Police Command announced the arrest of 57 suspects for stealing property from shop owners at state demolition sites.
According to reports, the state government recently ordered the demolition of a few structures that were erroneously erected on public property.
However, a few hoodlums used the exercise to commit theft from destroyed homes and shops.
A statement shared by the command on its official Twitter handle on Friday reads partly: “In continuation with the strategies emplaced by the Command to ensure the protection of lives and properties of people in the state, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, directed round-the-clock visibility patrols, following reports received that some hoodlums are taking advantage of the demolition of illegal buildings and structures by the Kano State government.”
