Anambra State House of Assembly gets new Speaker

The Anambra State 8th Assembly was inaugurated on Monday 12th June 2023 at the Anambra House of Assembly Annex, Awka.

Following the dissolution of the 7th Assembly by the State Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR. The Clerk of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mrs Esther Anaeto inaugurated the Anambra 8th Assembly as provided by the Nigerian Constitution.

Going by a motion moved by Hon Ikenna Udedeme and and seconded by Hon Jonhmark Ikwunne, members representing Ekwusigo and Awka North Constituency respectively, a member representing Ogbaru Constituency 2 Constituency Rt Hon Somto Udeze (a 3-time House member) was nominated as the speaker for the 8th Assembly while Rt Hon Chukwuma Pius Okoye, member representing Awka South 2 was nominated as the Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly.

The inauguration was adjudged one of the most seamless and transparent since the creation of the state. Seamless it is because the 30 members of the state house of assembly were all present and unanimously voted for the speaker, Rt Hon Udeze and his deputy, Rt Hon Pius Okoye unopposed!

The speaker of Anambra 8th Assembly in his address called on all the members of Anambra State House of Assembly to forget their respective party afflictions and unite in giving Ndi Anambra the best of what they were elected to offer.

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo while addressing the newly constituted assembly stated that as he applied for the job as Governor of the state, so the legislators also applied and were elected to serve.

He emphasized that they must as the speaker already stated, forget about their party differences and join hand with executive and judiciary counterparts so they collectively will give Ndi Anambra the much awaited; livable, smart, secured, prosperous homeland.
