The 10th National Assembly will be formally inaugurated today (Tuesday), and voting to choose its chief officers has already begun in the Nigerian Senate.
Senator Olamilekan Solomon Yayi of Ogun state seconded Senator Ali Ndume’s nomination of Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Ishaku Abbo also proposed Senator Abdul Aziz Yari as candidate for Senate President.
Following the receipt of the nominations for Yari and Akpabio, the Clerk of the Senate declared the nomination process concluded in the lack of any new nominations.
The contest is now between Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and Akpabio, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and ex-governor of Akwa Ibom State.
The lawmakers are currently voting according to their respective states.
