Guinness World Records fails to award 100 hours to Hilda Baci, gives reason

The longest cooking marathon now belongs to Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, according to Guinness World Records.

However, the Akwa Ibom State chef’s time was recorded by the organisation at 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Last month, the 27-year-old broke India’s Lata Tondon’s record of 87 hours, 45 minutes of continuous cooking by cooking for 100 hours nonstop.

But on Tuesday, Guinness World Record revealed that it had taken Hilda’s final time into account after she unintentionally overstayed one of her rest breaks early on in the effort.

It said,” However anyone attempting a marathon record receives a five minutes break for every hour that they complete. This is to allow suitable rest breaks for the participants due to the prolonged nature of these records.

”In this case, there was a miss calculation when it came to Hilda’s rest breaks, meaning we are unable to award the 100 hours claimed.”

”I can now announce with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, Hilda Baci is the new holder of the Guinness world records title for the longest cooking marathon. Congratulations, you are officially amazing,” a Guinness representative said in a video.
