Nasarawa: Kuje prison escapee arrested for burglary

One Haruna Sunday has been apprehended for allegedly stealing from a house in the Masaka community, in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.

Sunday is one of the inmate who escaped from the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, the police in the middle belt state said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, made this known while addressing newsmen at the command headquarters in Lafia on Wednesday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Nansel said the suspect allegedly broke into the apartment on Thursday, June 8, and stole some mobile phones and television.

He said policemen attached to the Masaka Police Division arrested Sunday following a tip-off, adding that upon interrogation, “the suspect confessed to have escaped from Kuje Correctional Centre when it was attacked in 2022.”

Nansel said the suspect would be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.

Meanwhile, the suspect said he was awaiting trial before the attack that led to his escape in 2022.

Sunday said he was hiding at a friend’s place in Kaduna State after the escape and was later lured into crime, which he regretted, NAN reports.
