The Nigerian Customs Service in Kebbi State has confirmed the arrest of Yusuf Suleman in connection with the illegal drug importation in the state.
The command also turned over to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency 104 parcels of Indian hemp, 359 sacks of Diazepam, and 70 packs of Tramadol seized in two separate operations.
Dr Ben Oramalugo, the state Customs Area Controller, said the briefing was focused on the command’s anti-smuggling activities in the last four weeks while handing over the seized items to the state Commandant of the NDLEA.
He said on June 11, 2023, based on a tip-off from a well-meaning citizen about a vehicle conveying offensive goods, the officers of the command through a stop and search along Kamba-Kyanagakwai Road on a vehicle with chassis No: IHGRC3KEA246069, was intercepted with 104 parcels of cannabis sativa.
“We also retrieved 99 5mg diazepam tablets which were found concealed in the vehicle driven by one suspect, Sulaiman Yusuf. The suspect was arrested and will be prosecuted,” Oramalugo said.
Similarly, the command patrol team made a seizure of 70 packs of Tramadol, and 260 diazepam tablets were also made on Monday, June 5, 2023, around Kamba/Rijiyar Maikafi bush.
Other items seized within the period included 107 foreign parboiled rice, 38 bales of second-hand clothing, 1,275 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirits, 52 jerry cans of vegetable oil, one Honda Accord 2014 model and one used Opel vehicle, among others.
The controller, however, confirmed the duty-paid value of the seized items stood at N64,613,594.
