Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes broke captain Lionel Messi’s record with a goal in his team’s 2-0 friendly win over Indonesia on Monday.
During the game at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Paredes launched a rocket from afar that landed in the back of the net.
His goal came from a distance of 31.4 metres, making him the player with the longest scoring distance under Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni.
Messi had held the record, converting from a distance of 28.9 meters against Uruguay in the past, according to Mundo Albicelest.
Meanwhile, apart from Paredes, Cristian Romero was the other goalscorer for La Albiceleste against Indonesia.
