Kano Assembly Confirms NNPP Chair, Ganduje’s Ex-Chief Of Staff, 17 Others As Commissioners

Kano Assembly

The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed 16 of the state governor’s 19 commissioner-nominees.

After passing screening during a house plenary yesterday, the nominees were confirmed as commissioners and members of the state Executive Council.

On Tuesday, Governor Yusuf sent a 19-person list to the House for confirmation as commissioners.

The house confirmed the 16 nominees in a motion moved by the majority leader, Lawal Hussaini, who represents Dala Local Government Area.

Two of the three remaining nominees who have yet to be screened, Hajiya Aisha Saji and Sheikh Tijjani Auwal, are currently in Saudi Arabia performing Hajj.

The pair has been directed to appear before the house after their return for screening.

However, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, the current deputy governor, was exempted from screening because he had already taken the oath of office as deputy governor.

Ali Makoda, a former chief of staff to the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Umar Doguwa, the state chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP); and former federal lawmakers Nasiru Sule Garo and Haruna Dederi are among those who have already been screened and confirmed as commissioners and members of the state executive council.

Others are a former president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Baba Dantiye, who earlier served as DG communications to a former governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Danjuma Mahmoud, Musa Shanono, Abbas Sani Abbas, Ladidi Garko, Marwan Ahmad, Dr Mahmoud Diggol, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, Dr Yusuf Kofar Mata, Hamza Safiyanu, and Tajo Usman Zaura.

Remember that the state governor on Wednesday directed all commissioner-nominees to declare their assets in order to be confirmed as commissioners under the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Meanwhile, following the confirmation, the House adjourned until July 17th, 2023.
