Police Arrest Suspects In Connection To Drug Offenses In Rivers

More than 20 people have been detained by the Rivers State Police Command in connection with drug-related crimes committed in the state.

The arrest came as a result of Nwonyi Polycarp-Emeka, the commissioner of police, ordering tactical commanders, department heads, and divisional police officers to execute raids in drug-infested hotspots within their purview using intelligence as a guide.

In collaboration with other security agencies, agents from the Choba Division stormed a trouble location and detained some individuals.

In the Obio/Akpor LGA settlements of Rumuosi and Ogbogoro, the police also detained a few people.

The suspects include; Lucky Amadi, Christian Otu, Henry Obisike, Glory Nwanikwe, Joseph Nwite, Collins Assor, Godwin Onyia, Godspower Enyia, Ekumere Worlu, Duke Wonuigwe, Ichegbo Orji, Chika Jackson, Gentle Wali, Chinedu Nwangbo, Solomon Eric-Ihundah, Bobmanuel, and Kelvin James.

In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, exhibits recovered from the suspects include; cannabis, crack, tramadol, codeine, Rohypnol, aphrodisiacs, skunk, a toy gun and a knife.

The spokesperson of the Command noted that a preliminary investigation is ongoing, while the suspects will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Police have advised members of the public to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods to the Police.
