503 criminal suspects arrested in Kaduna

Five hundred and three persons have been arrested in connection with different criminal activities in Kaduna state, the police in the North West state have said.

The suspects offences range from banditry, armed cattle rustling, culpable homicide, vandalization of rail tracks, and other related crimes.

The suspects were paraded at the state police command on Thursday.

Among those paraded was one Ismail Mohammed of Maijere Village Saminaka in the Lere local government area of the state who kidnapped and later killed his brother, Kabiru Mohammed after collecting N120,000 as ransom from the family.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Muhammed Jalige told reporters that the suspects were arrested between May to June 2023.

He disclosed that four AK47 rifles, three revolver pistols, two pump action guns, two thousand eight hundred (2,800) railway slippers, and nine stolen vehicles of different brands were recovered from the suspects.

Other recovered items include Two Tricycles, Two Hundred and nine Rounds of AK47 Live Ammunition, One Hundred and Twenty-Nine Rustled cattle, and Eight Sheep.

“Today, I am delighted to inform you that the Command within the last few weeks, in its onerous task of securing the lives and properties of law-abiding citizens of Kaduna State, has succeeded in arresting five Hundred and three (503) suspects for various crimes which include; armed Banditry, armed Robbery, handsets/handbags snatching, cattle rustling, culpable homicide, rape, shop breaking, theft, vandalization of rail tracks and other related crimes.

“During the investigation, a number of recoveries were made which include; four (4) AK47 Rifles, three (3) revolver Pistols, Two (2) pump action guns, two thousand eight hundred (2,800) railway slippers, Nine (9) motor- vehicles of different brands, two (2) tricycles, two hundred and nine (209) rounds of AK47 Live Ammunition, one hundred and twenty-nine (129) rustle cattle, eight (8) Sheep, two bags (2) of dry leaves,” he said

The police spokesman also said that the conspicuous peace and serenity currently enjoyed in Kaduna State was a indication to the fact that the command is working tirelessly in its quest to protect the lives and properties of the people of the state.

He assured residents that the Kaduna Police Command is determined to ensure that criminal elements are denied the space to carry out their nefarious activities across the state.
