Two people suspected of being cultists were allegedly gunned murdered in Awka, Anambra State’s capital, on Friday following a battle between rival cult factions.
Mr Ike Odi, an eyewitness, claimed the fight erupted around 11 a.m. near the Ukwuoji bus stop on Zik’s Avenue.
He claimed that five hoodlums attacked the area in a tinted-glass automobile and shot their victims.
“We were all there when it happened. Immediately gunshots started going up in the air, everyone scampered for safety, and the cultists used the opportunity to escape,” Odi said.
The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the killing of anyone but admitted that there was shooting in the area.
He said: “There is no information like that before me. Police operatives have intensified patrols within Awka following the sound of gunshots at Ukwuoji bus stop in Awka. Information gathered at the scene from the eyewitnesses showed it is cult-related.”
