Alleged N1bn fraud: Ganduje’s ex-commissioner, five others arrested

The Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has arrested former commissioner for works and infrastructure, Idris Saleh in the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of the state.

Recall that the former commissioner was arrested on Monday alongside five others allegedly to be involved in N1 billion fraud.

It was learnt that the N1 billion was meant for the rehabilitation of 30 roads and drainages within the Kano metropolis.

The projects for which the mony was allocated were reportedly not executed.

The money for the projects was reportedly withdrawn in three portions and paid into three companies’ accounts on April 23.

Earlier, Muhuyi Magaji, chairman of the Kano anti-graft agency, said the investigation into the alleged fraud case against Ganduje would be re-opened.

In October 2018, Ganduje was allegedly captured in a video by an online newspaper while receiving and stuffing bundles of dollars into his pocket.

“We have decided to reopen the case against former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Our agency will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations and ensure that due process is followed,” Magaji said.

On June 21, Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, reinstated Magaji as the chairman of the commission. He was sacked by Ganduje.
