The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State Command has announced the arrrest of a fraudster named Babatunde Adekunle.
He was nabbed engaging in the act of swapping an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card belonging to an elderly man and subsequently making unauthorized withdrawals totaling N1.8 million from the victim’s bank account.
The state Commandant of NSCDC, Umar Mohammed, conducted a parade where Babatunde Adekunle, 41, was presented alongside six other suspects who were apprehended while in possession of two trucks loaded with railway slippers in Oloru, Moro Local Government Area.
According to Mohammed, Babatunde Adekunle is alleged to have deceitfully swapped his own ATM card with that of the elderly man at an ATM point within a bank located in Ilorin. Following this swap, he illicitly accessed the man’s account and withdrew the sum of N1.8 million. The incident was reported, prompting the commandant to direct the tracking unit to arrest the suspect.
In regard to the two seized trucks filled with railway slippers, the suspects have been identified as Yunusa Bello, 41, Sanni Taminu, 35, Sanusi Lawal, 25, Alhaji Makeri, 33, Lukman Sanni, 32, and Olabode Johnson, 41.
Commandant Umar expressed gratitude to the state government, traditional rulers, and the residents of Kwara for their support. He assured the public that the NSCDC would continue to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of residents and their property within the state.
