Loyalists and supporters of former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode have praised the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his role in reuniting Ambode with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the Daily Trust, Ambode, Sanwo-Olu, and another former governor and former Works Minister, Babatunde Raji Fashola, were among the dignitaries who hosted Tinubu at a reception recently in Lagos.
It was a memorable event that reunited the quartet of Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode, and Sanwo-Olu. They were saddled with the responsibility of governing the state at different times, with Sanwo-Olu currently in the saddle.
Ambode had a falling out with the party’s leadership after they denied him a second term ticket, paving the way for Sanwo-Olu’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer in 2018 and subsequent governorship.
Following the 2019 election campaign, Ambode parted ways with the APC leadership and did not participate in any of the party’s local activities.
Instead, his supporters held parallel congresses for the election of party executives at the ward, local government, and state levels.
The reunification efforts were made public when Sanwo-Olu paid Ambode a surprise visit during an in-house event to commemorate his 60th birthday. Following that, Ambode attended a reception honouring the former governor, now President.
Our correspondent has learned that Ambode may be considered for a ministerial position in Tinubu’s current administration.
Ambode supporters in the state believe Sanwo-Olu should be credited with bringing Ambode back into the fold.
One of the supporters and coordinator of the Ambode Fans’ Club Worldwide, Prince Adeleke Akoja, who went to the riverside to pray for Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu, said the entire Lagosians appreciated Sanwo-Olu’s efforts to bring Ambode back into the fold.
He also urged the party’s leadership and party organs and structures in the state to accept Ambode back into the fold while overlooking any wrongs they perceived he had committed.
