One Olatunde Opeyemi has been arraigned over the alleged theft of household items worth N210,000 in Ekiti state.
The 28-year-old man was arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court on Friday by the police.
According to Police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, the defendant committed the offences on July 2 in the Okesa area of Ado-Ekiti.
Adeniyi told the court that the defendant and one other person still at large broke into the house of Iyabode Musa at 2 am.
According to him, the two-man gang allegedly carted away a refrigerator valued at N150,000, one mattress valued at N40,000, and an iron bed valued at N20,000, all valued at N210,000.
The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened sections 322 (a) (b) (c), 323 (1) and (2), as well as Section 302 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of housebreaking and stealing preferred against him.
The counsel for the defendant, Mr Olawumi Olowolafe, had subsequently urged the court to grant his client bail.
The magistrate, Dolapo Olorunlogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum before she adjourned the case until July 12.
