Ben Odunzeh, the New Nigeria People’s Party candidate for governor of Imo State in the November election, has expressed sympathy to the families of the traders who lost their lives and goods in the gunmen’s attack on Akwakuma market in Owerri and Amaraku market in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area on Friday night.

He also urged President Tinubu to step in and stop the killing spree in Imo State.

While describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable, he called on security agencies in the state to “unravel those behind the attacks and immediately bring them to face the wrath of the law.”

Odunzeh in a statement by his media office on Saturday decried the spate of wanton killings in the state and reiterated his resolve to bring all forms of insecurity to an end when he becomes the governor.

He called on the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to brace up and safeguard the lives of Imolites, saying he has the constitutional obligation to protect lives and properties.

“I’m sad. My heart is heavy with what our state has turned into. It is disheartening that our Imo has become an epicenter for nefarious activities where lives are no longer valued.

“I never envisaged a day like this in our history. What a sad commentary! The governor must brace up and safeguard the lives and properties of Ndi-Imo because he has that constitutional obligation.

“I send my sincere sympathies to the families of those affected by this attack, may God grant quick recovery to those injured”, he said.

He called on President Bola Tinubu to “intervene and bring the ravaging insecurity in Imo to end once and for all.”

In other news, the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has vowed to maintain violence-free electioneering activities as political parties across the nation kick off campaigns.

Speaking optimistically about the elections, State Chairman of the NNPP, Dr. Umar Hudu Doguwa claims his party will be law-abiding because the forthcoming elections would lead his party to victory.

While speaking to journalists, Umar said as a party, the NNPP plans to take over Nigeria as seen by the prowess and acceptability of the leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
