Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory has urged residents of towns affected by floods in the FCT to remain calm as essential efforts are taken to handle the problem.

Senator Ireti, who was on an evaluation visit to TradeMore Estate, located along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Motorway in Abuja, a settlement recently impacted by the natural disaster, promised residents that due procedure would be followed in resolving all concerns caused by the phenomena.

It was stated that the estate was flooded after a one-hour heavy downpour. Many vehicles were stolen. Houses were submerged up to their roofs, and many of them collapsed.

Kingibe in response, said, “As a firm believer in the rule of law, I believe the legal process should be transparent and credible to ensure we have a just and peaceful society.”

The Lawmaker had earlier on Thursday during Plenary at the Senate, noted that “The flooding disaster in the FCT is a devastating issue for the citizens and must be addressed immediately. Environmental challenges such as this must be tackled to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. The solution must be permanent.”

She called on relevant agencies to move away “from fighting modes but to look at permanent solutions which can be done.

“Development control, and relevant agencies responsible for these things should be held accountable when these situations arise,” she added.
