- ICPC dismissed the report in a statement by Azuka Ogugua
- ICPC appealed to media not to allow their outlets to be used to propagate lies
The Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has denied recent media accusations that files compromising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his close aides were carted away from its headquarters by DSS operatives.
Azuka Ogugua, the Commission’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Saturday urging the public to dismiss these accusations as untrue, unsubstantiated, and simply propaganda.
The ICPC stressed that, while the media plays an important role in sharing information, it is critical to follow responsible journalism practises.
The anti-corruption organisation voiced worry about the lack of journalistic ethics and urged the media not to allow their platforms to be used to promote subversive and deceptive information.
“The commission firmly refutes the report by Saharareporters and unequivocally states that there were no files implicating President Tinubu or his close aides at our headquarters or any of our offices across the states. Therefore, the alleged carting away of these imaginary files is entirely baseless and should be disregarded by the public,” the statement read.
The Commission urged the public to rely on credible and verified information from official sources and assured them of its continued efforts to combat corruption in Nigeria.
