Three school pupils in Yola, Adamawa State, have been killed after fire engulfed their room.
The deceased were pupils of an Islamic school, better known as almajirai.
The incident was caused by a fire ignited by burning mosquito repellent coil in the premises of their school at Sabon Pegi, a community in Yola South Local Government Area.
It was gathered on Monday that the incident occurred on the night of Friday, July 7.
The owner of the school, Malam Abubakar Usman, confirmed the unfortunate incident.
He stated that the pupils died due to the fire from the mosquito repellent which engulfed their room.
According to him, two of the pupils, Ismaila Muhammadu who was 12 years old, and Yusuf Abubakar who was 13, died instantly, while 17-year-old Mustapha Ahmadu died on Saturday morning while on hospital admission.
Giving his account of the deadly fire, Ismaila Mohammed said, “It was around 11 pm (on Friday) when we had already gone to bed, and one of the kids came crying.
“We rushed to see that one of the huts was on fire and we decided to put out the fire; that was when we saw two dead almajirai in the burnt hut.”
