- Case transferred for investigation.
Members of the Abia State Vigilance Group have arrested a man, Chidi Nkire, for allegedly defiling three of his underage children at their residence in the Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.
The disturbing incident reportedly began after Nkire expelled the victims’ mother from their marital home following a disagreement.
Providing details on Nkire’s arrest, Victor Ogidinta, the secretary of the vigilance group, explained that they received a tip-off from a concerned citizen regarding Nkire’s alleged acts of defilement against his daughters, aged 14, 12, and eight. Acting on the information, the vigilance group members promptly initiated an operation on Friday.
Ogidinta revealed that upon arriving at Nkire’s house in Obingwa LGA, they discovered that he had fled to a neighboring village. However, he was eventually apprehended at a hideout in a nearby community.
“We received an intelligence report about an individual engaging in such a heinous act, and we immediately took action that day. Unfortunately, the man had absconded to a neighboring community, but we later traced him to his hiding place in Osisioma Ngwa local government,” Ogidinta stated.
According to Ogidinta, Nkire had been carrying out these acts since last year, starting after his separation from their mother. He coerced and threatened the children, even resorting to starving them until they agreed to comply with his demands. Notably, Nkire has been cooperative and has not denied any of the accusations thus far.
Following the incident’s report at the local police station, the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department in Umuahia.
In a video clip, Nkire confessed to committing the reprehensible acts, attributing his actions to the devil and his wife’s unavailability to fulfill his sexual desires.
“I did something terrible; it was the devil that influenced me. I didn’t know it was like this,” Nkire confessed.
Confirming the case, a reliable source within the Abia State Police Command stated, “The incident has been reported to the State CID. The police force is aware, and discreet investigations into the matter have commenced.”
