Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has stated that sitting judges should not be in charge of election petition tribunals.

Babalola made the remarks on Monday at a gathering in Ado-Ekiti to commemorate his 60th year at the bar.

Retired judges and senior attorneys should conduct election tribunals. This, he claimed, would ensure that regular court proceedings remained unaffected.

“For the past four years, these cases have been on. We have some judges here, the headquarters won’t be able to sit for many months because they are handling what they call election petitions.

“Election petitions should not be handled by sitting judges, they should be decided only by the committee set up consisting of senior advocates and retired judges in that case, regular courts would not close down,” Babalola said.

In other news, Shehu Sani, a sociopolitical activist, has stated that only God can save President Bola Tinubu if he loses the Presidential election petition.

Sani warned Tinubu that only God could deliver him from an emperor in Kaduna State.

The former Kaduna Central Senator claimed on Twitter that if Tinubu wins the presidential election, the opposition will applaud him.

According to Sani: “If the court favours Tinubu and his victory is affirmed, the opposition may congratulate him or condemn the ruling and move on.

“If the court ruled against Tinubu and he lost the presidency, only God will save him from the mouth of the ex-Kaduna emperor and his next Book “How we made him and he betrayed us.”
