  • A construction engineer based in Abuja, was discovered dead by neighbors in his residence
  • Neighbours noticed a strong odor emanating from his apartment and promptly alerted the police
  • The deceased appeared to have been struck with a hammer

The decomposed body of Humphrey Nnaji, a construction engineer based in Abuja, was discovered and removed from his residence in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to reports, unknown individuals gained entry into Nnaji’s premises, killed him, and fled while he was at home.

On Saturday, Nnaji’s neighbors, unaware of his fate, noticed a strong odor emanating from his apartment and promptly alerted the police.

A local commercial driver known as Musa stated that when the police entered the apartment to investigate, they found Nnaji’s remains seated on a chair. Musa said, “The engineer’s corpse was found in his apartment in the Dawaki area. The police came to remove his body on Saturday around 8 pm. The corpse was already decomposing, indicating that the incident may have occurred before Saturday. The residents in the area are still in shock over how this happened. The house has been cordoned off.”

A source within the FCT Police Command revealed that during the examination of the crime scene, the police discovered a hammer next to Nnaji’s body. Additionally, there was a written note alleging that the killing was carried out by an individual identifying as Alfa, who claimed to be seeking revenge for his sister’s death.

“The deceased appeared to have been struck with a hammer. A sledgehammer with bloodstains was found nearby. Furthermore, the back of Nnaji’s head had a deep cut. He was seated on a chair with two charging cords from mobile handsets wrapped around his neck,” the source stated.

“The police also found a note on his table purportedly written by someone named Alfa. In the note, Alfa claimed to have killed Nnaji in retaliation for his sister’s death and accused him of involvement in fraudulent activities targeting young women, for Yahoo Plus. ” the source added.

The spokesperson for the FCT command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is currently underway.
