Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has ordered the demolition of all buildings in the state capital that house illicit drugs.
He issued the order after donating 20 operational vehicles to security personnel as part of efforts to reduce crime in Minna.
Governor Bago reiterated that the Niger State Government will not tolerate criminality in the state and would work tirelessly to prevent criminals from causing harm to Minna residents.
The Nigeria Police Force received 12 of the 20 operational vehicles, while the State Security Service (SSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) each received two.
Each of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Hunters Group, and the Anti Drug Committee (ADC) received one.
Minna made headlines last week when robbers attacked a Minna Emirate official and stole millions.
Gunmen had tracked the officials down from a bank and robbed him in front of the Emir of Minna’s palace. In the incident, two palace guards were killed.
Bago had gone to see the monarch to express his condolences. He had called the attack an assault on traditional institutions and promised that his administration would not tolerate it.
