The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has disclosed that it has recovered N454bn looted public funds and secured 90 convictions in the last four years.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner in Osun State, Mr. Demola Bakare at an event in Ede to mark this year’s African Union Anti-Corruption Day.
In his presentation titled, ‘Scorecard: Highlight of the Commission’s Achievement in the fight against Corruption in Nigeria,’ Bakare said the recoveries were made through funds restrained, tax intervention, cash recovered from domiciliary accounts, rent received from some properties forfeited to the government, budget tracking and cash in other accounts, among others.
He said, “We have also within the time under review investigated 4,737 cases, secured 90 convictions, and tracked 3,422 projects under the constituency and project tracking initiative.”
The Controller of Correction of the Nigeria Correctional Service in the state, Tolu Ogunsakin, urged the youth to be persons of integrity.
Speaking in a similar vein, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, admonished the participants to instill integrity in the younger generation.
In another story, President Muhammadu Buhari sworn in seven reappointed board members for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other related offences (ICPC).
The ceremony, which took place in the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, was conducted before the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by the President.
The members appointed are: Justice Adamu Bello (retd) Katsina State; Hannatu Mohammed (Jigawa State;, Olubukola Balogun (Lagos State) and Obiora Igwedibia (Anambra State).
Others are Dr. Abdullahi Saidu (Niger State); Yahaya Umar Dauda (Nasarawa State) and Grace Chinda (Rivers State).
