- Onyeizu alleged that the Panel was already compromised

Uchenna Onyeizu, the Labour Party candidate for the February 25 Abia South Senate election, has finally filed his appeal at the Court of Appeal in Owerri, asking to be recognised the poll’s victor.
The LP candidate, Onyeizu, argued that he had won the election by defeating Senator Abaribe of the All Progressives Congress, APGA, in a lawsuit that was filed on July 13 at the Owerri Division of the Appellate Court.
He also took issue with Panel 1’s earlier ruling, which dismissed his petition on technical grounds rather than considering the merits of his case. Panel 1 was a panel of the National Assembly election petitions tribunal located in Umuahia.
“The decision of the Panel is totally unacceptable to me because I am so convinced that I defeated Senator Abaribe,” he said, while appealing to his supporters to remain calm and await the outcome of his Appeal Court case.
Recall that Onyeizu caused a storm during one of the Panel’s sessions by claiming that he did not have confidence in the Panel, alleging that the Panel was already compromised.
