Lightning strikes three family members to death in Benue

The victims are two boys and a girl


A bout of lightning has killed three persons in Nigeria’s middle belt state of Benue.

The incident happened on Thursday in Agasha, Guma Local Government Area of the state during a rainfall.

It’s gathered that the victims were returning from their farm at about 4 pm when they were struck down by the lightning.

According to a source in the area, the victims include two girls and a six-year-old boy who decided to return home following a heavy downpour.

“The two girls and the about six-year-old boy were on the farm to harvest produce for the family when the heavy rain started, Wednesday, around 4 p.m.

“They decided to return home. It was while on their way that they were struck by the lightning near their house.

“People ran for safety when the lightning struck but it was discovered that three of them were unfortunate and were affected. They died on the spot. Their bodies have been recovered by the family members”, an eye-witness told reporters in the area on Friday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, has not reacted to the incident.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Three suspected kidnappers in the sleepy agrarian Oro Ago community in the Ifelodun local government area of of Kwara state have been struck to death by a bolt of lightning during a thunderstorm.

It’s gathered that the incident was made possible by the metaphysical power of local vigilante team in Igbomina who are deploying traditional and unorthodox method to tackle insecurity in the state.

The police in the state have begun investigation into the incident which, according to a video that has gone viral, happened about three days ago.
