A three-man robbery gang that specialises in robbing victims and dispossessing them of their belongings have been apprehended, police in Anambra state have said.
The robbery suspects were intercepted on Saturday night after snatching a tricycle from the owner in Agu-Awka where they operate.
The police in the state announced the development in a press statement released on Sunday by their spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ikenga said the suspects were smashed following information received from the Police in Awka that they were fleeing towards Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
He said the Police, who were on patrol with the local vigilantes laid an ambush for the robbers and got them apprehended.
According to him, one Baretta Pistol and one locally made Chief Revolver Pistol, 12 rounds of life, and one expended ammunition were recovered from the three-man gang as well as the tricycle.
He gave the names of the suspects as Ebuka Madu ‘M’ age 22years from Umunze, Anambra State, Chinedu Godwin ‘M’ age 23years from Enugu State, and Udegbunam Chikezie ‘M’ 18years of Neni, Anambra.
He said, “Police at Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State have intercepted an armed robbery gang that snatched a tricycle from the owner in Agu-Awka on 15/7/2023 (Saturday night).
“The gang was smashed following information received from the Police in Awka that the gang was fleeing towards Anaocha LGA.
“The Police who were on patrol with the local vigilante laid an ambush for the robbers and got them apprehended.
“The Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has assured members of the public that the confidence reposed in the Command for the maintenance of law and order and pursuit of justice shall not be taken for granted.
“He has directed that the suspects be arraigned in court after a diligent investigation
