Katsina United fans flocked to the streets of the ancient city yesterday to celebrate their beloved club’s return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
It will be remembered that Katsina United recently won the ticket to return to Nigeria’s top flight at the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 competition in Asaba, Delta State.
As a result, enthusiastic fans and other football stakeholders in Katsina banded together to celebrate the promotion of the ‘Chanji boys’ alongside the club and the state’s sports-loving people.
The celebration began in Dan’dagoro and continued through Kofar Marusa, Gwan Gwan, and Kofar Durbi before concluding at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, home of Katsina United.
Alhaji Abubakar Sani, President of Dadin Kowa Football Academy and Director-General of Dikko Sports Movement, stated that the rally was organised to express gratitude to God Almighty, the club’s players, officials, management, and supporters for making the state proud.
He also acknowledged the government’s support, which he attributed to Katsina United’s successful return to Nigeria’s top flight.
Katsina United captain Usman Bara’u, speaking on behalf of his teammates, thanked the fans for coming out in large numbers to celebrate with them.
Sporting Edge Remo Stars On Penalties To Lift Trophy
Sporting FC Lagos won the inaugural Naija Super 8 tournament at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena Lagos yesterday, defeating Remo Stars 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The home team dominated the early stages and could have gone ahead as early as the 11th minute when Saturday Okon unleashed a scorcher from 20 yards. Still, Remo Stars goalkeeper Bankole Kayode tipped the ball over for the match’s first corner kick.
Remo Stars responded in the 19th minute when lanky striker Isaac James lifted his head highest to head at goal but was denied by the crossbar.
Odafi Onyemachi, Sporting’s diminutive midfielder, also came close to breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute, but his shot narrowly missed the target.
