Rain shortage

Farmers in Borno have resorted to special prayers in response to the impending drought caused by a lack of consistent rainfall.

Farmers, primarily in the state’s northern and central regions, have turned to prayer in hopes of divine intervention.

Many farmers in Maiduguri, Jere, Konduga, Kaga, and Mafa Local Government Areas said the development was upsetting and that they needed prayers.

You will see clouds as if it is going to rain, but after a while, there will be a strong wind pushing the clouds away from you, and that is the end.”

If things continue this way, there will be drought, said Malam Ibrahim Ali, a farmer on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

Many farmers who spoke out about the upsetting development said they had turned to prayer.

Meanwhile, the Borno Emirate Council has begun to mobilise the public for special rain prayers known as “Salatul Istisqa’a.”

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, issued a statement urging Muslims to gather at Ramat Square Maiduguri on Monday for prayer.

The statement, signed by the Shehu’s Private Secretary, Malam Zannah-Umar Ali, urged Muslims to attend the special prayer regardless of age, gender, or status.
