  • Ebere encountered health issues such as headaches, puffy eyes, and facial swelling while striving to fulfill his goal
  • Despite the challenges, he remained determined to complete the week-long crying record

Tembu Ebere, also known as Town Crier, a Nigerian man aiming to set a Guinness World Record by crying continuously for seven days, has revealed that he experienced partial blindness during his attempt.

This pursuit of endurance records has gained popularity in Nigeria since chef Hilda Baci set the official record for the longest individual cooking marathon in May, lasting 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Ebere acknowledged to the BBC that he pushed himself to cry incessantly for seven days, but encountered health issues along the way, including headaches, puffy eyes, and facial swelling. At one point, he even experienced temporary blindness for a duration of 45 minutes.

Despite the challenges he faced, Ebere expressed his determination to persist and fulfill his goal of crying continuously for a week.

Following the attention garnered by Baci’s cooking marathon, Nigeria has witnessed a surge in record-breaking attempts, prompting Guinness World Records to issue a cautionary statement discouraging further “record-a-thons.” This came after reports emerged of proposed events such as an “idea-a-thon” and a “puff-puff-a-thon.”
