- Mendy was cleared of rape and attempted rape by the Jury at Chester Crown Court in the UK
- Mendy signed until June 2025 as new Lorient left back
By agreeing to a contract with FC Lorient of French Ligue 1, Benjamin Mendy has made his comeback to football.
On Wednesday, market transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano shared the news on his verified Twitter account.
Days after the jury at Chester Crown Court in the UK exonerated Mendy of charges of rape and attempted rape, a settlement was reached.
Mendy has a contract with Lorient that runs through June 2025, according to Romano.
He wrote, “Benjamin Mendy makes his return to football by signing as new Ligue1 side Lorient player, done deal.
“Mendy signs until June 2025 as new Lorient left back after he was found not guilty by Chester Crown Court.”
Mendy played his last game for English Premier League side, Manchester City on August 2021 following his rape case.
However, the French international full-back became a free man but without a club after his Manchester City contract expired at the end of June.
