Filling stations have been cautioned not to tamper with their pumps or increase prices without justification by the Jigawa State Task Force on Petroleum Products.
Col. Muhd Alhassan (Rtd), the chairman, issued the warning while inspecting a few petrol stations in Dutse, the state capital.
He claimed that the committee had been shocked by the way certain petrol stations were altering their pumps to take advantage of their patrons.
Alhassan said the committee would not hesitate to take drastic measures against any filling station found to be tampering with its pump.
“Even though we have no control over prices, we have a stake in ensuring that petrol stations do not tamper with their pumps,” he said.
He said the committee has identified some filling stations that are in the habit of readjusting their pumps.
The committee chairman said the inspection exercise would be extended to all the nooks and crannies of the state.
