Southeast leaders rally against Tinubu government’s fuel price hikes, call for nationwide protest

Coalition calls for suspension of fuel price hikes

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), representing South-East leaders, has strongly criticized the Nigerian government led by President Bola Tinubu for the recent surge in fuel prices.

In response to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) decision to raise the fuel pump price from approximately N500 to over N600, the coalition has called for a nationwide protest.

Specifically, the South-East leaders’ call for protest came in the wake of an abrupt increase in the fuel price from N537 to N617 and beyond.

COSEYL’s President General, Goodluck Ibem, expressed outrage over what he termed as “wickedness” from the authorities, as ordinary Nigerians continue to suffer from the removal of fuel subsidies.

The coalition further lamented that while Nigerians were already grappling with the challenges caused by the previous price of N520, President Tinubu’s government increased the fuel price to N617 within just two months in office, affecting some states as well.

The coalition further lamented that when Nigerians are “still battling with hardship to settle with the previous price of N520, President Tinubu within 2 months in office increased the same price of fuel to N617” as it is in some states.

The coalition therefore called on all Nigerians, especially the youths, to “come out enmasse for a protest against this evil and wickedness brought upon Nigerians by the present government. Nigerians can no longer breathe again in their own country.

“The time to liberate Nigeria from her oppressors is now. We must march on the streets of the 36 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja until the fuel price is reversed to its old price of N198 per litre”.
