In an incident that has left the Ipara community in Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State in shock, an 84-year-old man named Elder Alfred Opadipe was beheaded by a man suspected to be mentally challenged.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old David Shodola, carried out the gruesome act on Friday morning, plunging the town into confusion and fear.
During his attempted arrest, David Shodola fiercely resisted, wielding a machete and attacking police officers, which resulted in his death.
Omotola Odutola, the Ogun State Police spokesperson, confirmed the distressing incident on Friday evening.
The authorities had received a distress call from an informant, prompting Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Bankole Isara Eluyeru to lead a team of officers to the scene.
According to her, the suspect fiercely resisted arrest as he used “the machete on the DPO and his men.” The team succeeded “in neutralising the suspect and recovering a weapon from him,” she affirmed.
The police spokesperson, however, asserted that there was “no recount of the suspect being a madman from the intelligence the police gathered.”
