- The convict confessed that he was HIV-positive, but claimed that his viral problem had been “flushed” by his doctor.
- A second defendant in the matter was discharged and acquitted by the court
A Magistrate’s Court in Umuahia, Abia State, has sentenced one Chiemela Victor Ekeke to life in prison over defilement of a four-year-old girl.
Within Nigeria had reported how Ekeke defiled the child and his subsequent arrest by the relatives of the victim.
Ekeke, 37, also later confessed that he was HIV-positive, but claimed that his viral problem had been “flushed” by his doctor.
Delivering her ruling on the matter, the Presiding Magistrate, N. Lekwa said that the Court had in the last sitting found the accused person guilty of infant defilement.
Before being jailed, the defendant was however discharged on count 1, which is bordered on conspiracy.
A second defendant in the matter was discharged and acquitted, as the Court determined that he had no common intention or anything linking him to the crime.
The prosecuting counsel, Okezuonu Obioma applauded the decision of the Court, saying that it was in tandem with the position of the law in defilement of a minor.
Ekeke had confessed to having carnal knowledge of the minor but pleaded for leniency, claiming that he only used his fingers to touch the private part of the kid while keeping her on his lap.
He further confessed being HIV positive, even though he claimed that his doctor told him his viral load was just small and had already been flushed away.
He also blamed the devil for misleading him
