Contractors Ask Tinubu To Wade In Appointment Of BPP DG

Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been asked to intervene in the appointment of a substantive Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to avoid appointing someone who is unqualified for the position.

Because of the agency’s importance, the Contractors Association of Nigeria stated that the call became necessary to ensure that the right person is appointed.

According to the contractors’ chairman, Yusuf Abubakar, “the moment the BPP is subdued, all other due processes in the country are gone.” And in order for it not to be subdued, we are urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to allow the plot to bypass the established civil service succession process in the public sector, as is being planned in tandem with a few top government officials in the Presidential Villa.

The BPP has always been headed by an engineer who is vast in contract and procurement rudiments. Little surprise that a clique who claimed to have the backing of the Presidency is projecting someone who is not an engineer but  a graduate of Business Administration to head BPP as Director General.

If this should happen, it will be a disgrace to President Bola Tinubu and to Nigeria because procurement in government offices would henceforth, be done on a ‘cash and carry’ basis.

Our appeal to President Bola Tinubu is to save his government from embarrassment. We are just beginning a new government in which every Nigerian has a lot of hope. The hope is so high that the government cannot afford to miss its steps.
