- Chief and wife abducted to unknown destination
- Commissioner confirmed deployment of tactical team, anti-kidnapping unit, and Karu Area Command to scene
Jibrin Mohammed, the Emir of Gurku, and his wife were kidnapped by gunmen in the state’s Gurku, Karu Local Government Area, according to the police headquarters in Nasarawa State.
The emir was taken from his castle, according to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Command Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the situation to newsmen in Lafia on Monday.
According to Nansel, the palace of Gurku Town, which is 10 kilometres from the major town of Mararaba in the Karu Local Government Area, was besieged by men who were allegedly kidnappers on August 6.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Mohammed-Baba, deployed a combined team of police operatives in collaboration with the vigilante group to the scene.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the chief and his wife were abducted to an unknown destination.
“The surrounding bushes and the mountains were combed, but all efforts to get them back proved abortive,” he said.
He, however, assured that the commissioner had further deployed additional men from the tactical team and the anti-kidnapping unit and men from the Karu Area Command to the scene.
“Efforts are ongoing to rescue the chief and his wife unhurt. The public will be kept abreast as events unfold,” he said.
